Great Waves of Rumoi
The Sea of Japan just offshore from Rumoi is usually choppy between fall and winter, and is known to have some of the world's largest waves. Particularly, waves that measure over 10m in height crash into the Port of Rumoi breakwater in December. Because of this, some of the world's largest tetrapods weighing 50 tons can be found stacked along this breakwater. Recently, the town has seen more visitors attracted to Rumoi to experience these giant waves in person.
