Rumoi Area Salmon and Trout Breeding Association
Teshio Capture and Egg Recovery Site (Near the Mouth of the Teshio River)
Salmon fishing starts every year from late August to October.
The beginning of a work day for the fishermen
As the Teshio River boasts a broad width, the fixed net fishing method is used here. At sunrise, the fishermen head out to the sea by boat to pull up the previously set fishing net.
Silvery fish shining in the morning sun
After the net is pulled, the area below the deck becomes filled up with salmon quickly. The fishermen then promptly toss the lively salmon that resist to be handled into a corf.
Egg recovery to cultivate young fish
In order to transfer the fish to the egg recovery processing center, a crane is used to lift the salmon contained in the corf. All the salmon struggle desperately to jump over the netted basket to escape.
To the processing hut
The salmon are transferred to the processing hut on shore by a conveyor belt. The inside of the processing hut is normally not open to the public.
